In 2024, AUS-ROV proudly partnered with Snowy Hydro to facilitate efficient and safe long-distance tunnel inspections, a critical aspect of maintaining the infrastructure supporting one of Australia’s most significant renewable energy systems.

 Snowy Hydro, renowned for its innovative contributions to sustainable energy, faced the challenge of inspecting extensive tunnel networks integral to its daily operations. These inspections are essential for ensuring the reliability, safety, and longevity of the assets, with the inspection scope and complexity demanding advanced technology and expertise.

 AUS-ROV answered the call with our specialised remote operated vehicle (ROV) systems development capability, enabling the inspection of long distance flooded tunnel structures. Equipped with high-definition imaging, advanced sonar sensors, and powerful lighting, our ROVs conducted precise inspections in challenging environments, capturing HD video, 2D sonar imaging and 3D sonar profiling data. These deployments delivered unparalleled visibility into tunnel conditions, structural stability, and the identification of potential remediation issues while minimising disruption to Snowy Hydro’s operations.

Our collaboration included the deployment of long-range ROVs capable of navigating confined spaces over extended distances, ensuring that tunnel network inspections yielded multiple datasets for post-processing and analysis to inform asset management. By providing real-time data and multiple lines of evidence through specialist data processing, AUS-ROV enabled Snowy Hydro to effectively understand the existing asset conditions and prioritise maintenance and renewal initiatives, reinforcing their commitment to operational excellence.
